What we do for you
with our complete ToughEdge package
- We spray paint a line where the ToughEdge will follow.
- With your approval of that line, we cut a trench in the sod and soil along the line.
- We remove the sod and soil from your property created from the trench.
- We stone the trench and compact it with a plate compactor.
- We mix each batch of ToughEdge concrete on site with color and fiber mesh for significant added strength.
- Next we extrude the ToughEdge through our specialized machine and run a continuous galvanized cable (think of it as flexible rebar) through it without a break.
- We trowel finish the surface smooth and apply a stamp or roller with a release color.
- As it dries, we seal the ToughEdge with a curing agent and professional grade sealer.
- Next, we clean the excess concrete from the front and back of the ToughEdge and haul it away.
- We leave your property clean with minimal disturbance to your yard.
What to Expect
Before
- Owners Paul or Nick will meet with you at your home to review your proposed curbing project.
- We’ll supply you with our knowledge and ideas and work with you to come up with the best design layout possible.
- We will paint, then measure your area and give you a written estimate.
- Please keep sprinklers in the area, off for two days prior to your installation date and please pick up after your pets before we arrive.
- Be sure to plainly mark all sprinkler heads and lines, Verizon and Spectrum cables, invisible fence, or other buried items.
During
- Our experienced ToughEdge crew will install your beautiful new curbing using the highest quality materials and equipment.
- We clean up the front and back side of the ToughEdge and leave the site clean and neat.
- We will make sure your specific instructions for ToughEdge installation are followed, as your estimator is also your installer.
After
- Your ToughEdge is set to cure upon completion of the project. ToughEdge does not need to be sprayed or misted with water (this could discolor it). It is perfect, but vulnerable, when we leave. Make sure your neighbors and family members stay away from the curbing after we leave.
- Take extra precaution to keep pets, children, and mowers away from the curb for at least 24 hours. It will be “hard” to the touch at this point, but will still need a few days to completely harden.
- ToughEdge will look “splotchy” for up to 30 days while it is curing. This will go away as it cures and is not to be confused with efflorescence. Concrete is darker in color when it is first laid due to the water content and will lighten up as it dries and cures. After about 30 days ToughEdge is fully cured and will have a uniform look to it.
- Sprinkler work and landscape work may be started 48 hours after installation; however, caution must be taken as shovels, picks and wheelbarrows can damage the ToughEdge for several days while it is fully curing.
- Concrete curbing like any other type of concrete can and will crack. We try to control the cracking with expansion joints every 28 inches.
- ToughEdge will last many years with minimal maintenance. We apply a commercial grade acrylic clear sealer before we leave. We recommend you seaI it once a year to keep your ToughEdge looking like new and protected from the elements.
